Rainforest and Waterfalls

Only about 20km on Bruce Highway north of Innisfail, we take a small road 8km west to the Josephine Falls in the Wooroonooran National Park. There are a series of waterfalls and pools on the slopes of Queenslands highest mountain, Mt. Bartle Frere (1622m).

There are also loads of interesting rainforest plants like tree ferns and even white orchids growing on the trees.

The crystal clear water fed by rain invite to a refreshing swim in the Golden Hole.

Although not a very warm day, the water was not very cold and even Joshua and Jeremia enjoyed it.

The waterfalls are far less busy than for example Mossman Gorge (which I will report on further down).

North of Cairns there a many great and remote beaches.

One of the more busy ones is Ellis Beach - but only a very little bit busy...

A bit further on the Captain Cook Highway 44 there is the Rex Lookout.

The Lookout is named after Raymond David Rex chairman of the Douglas Shire Council from 1933-1955 and advocat of the 1933 opened Captain Cook highway.

We drive further north on the highay to Gossman. Only a few kilometers west of the settlment there is the Gossman Gorge.

The gorge is much more busy and there are also pools with people swimming.

A rope bridge...

The family sitting in the dark rainforest.

Our final destination for today is Port Douglas, the picture shows the Old Courthouse near the harbor. From here we will start our mabe biggest adventure on Monday, tomorrow we will visit the Cairns Tropical Zoo.

Stay Tuned ;)
