The Day That Went Completely Different...

After breakfast and a final visit to the jumping pillow for the whole family, we continue to head south. Our target is Seaforth or Grasstree Beach near Mackay.

We start with a short stop at Conway Beach, an all in all 50km detour.

The beach is not sooo nice but there are some rocks to climb for the kids.

Then we are back on Bruce Highway and after ca. 50km we come to Bloomsbury. Here we are being stopped by police. 10km down the highway a massive multi vehicle accident has happened and the road is totally blocked - expected delay is six hours!
There are no other roads south. We make a short visit to Midge Point beach before we decide to turn north. We head for Bowen, north of Airlie Beach. There we can take the Bowen Developmental Road via Collinsville, then Collinsville-Elphinstone-Road and Suttor Developmental Road to Mackay. A more than 400km detour.
However, in Bowen we decide to take a rest and stay on the campground.

The road is now open again and tomorrow morning we will decide if we stick to our new plan.
