Besides the normal preparations, a couple of electronic devices need to be setup (such as the one I am now writing this article on). The mobile navigation device received Australia maps, the ipad and the netbook receive some additional software and the mobile internet access is being tested (more about later).
Shall I take both, ipad and netbook to Australia? Not sure. All the photos I intend to take will require a large harddisk to be stored on. So the netbook is a must, also for the image processing and upload to www.fotocommunity.de. However, the ipad shows its advantages since I have it only a few days - very flexible and ideal for blogging!
The internet access will be crucial for updating the blog and the photos. Now, I have found the ideal solution for that as well: a mobile WiFi / UMTS Hotspot (Novatel 2352) which lets you connect up to 5 WiFi devices to the mobile internet. So not only the iPad and the netbook can go online, but also e.g. the iPod touch.

Am 22. Juli soll es los gehen. Mit der ganzen Familie ab Düsseldorf über Frankfurt und Singapur nach Brisbane. Von dort dann nach einigen Tagen Aufenthalt mit dem Wohnmobil nach Norden voraussichtlich bis Cairns und zurück.
Neben den üblichen Vorbereitungen müssen noch diverse elektronische Helferlein vorbereitet werden. Fürs Navi wurde Australien-Kartenmaterial beschafft. Außerdem gibt es einen Netbook und ein iPad. Sollen beide Geräte mit oder doch nur das Netbook? Da die vielen Bilder einen großen Speicher und auch eine gute Bearbeitungsmöglichkeit erfordern, wird hier wohl kein Weg am Netbook vorbei führen. Andererseits zeigt auch das iPad bereits nach wenigen Tagen seine Flexibilität - diesen Blog-Eintrag schreibe ich gerade darauf. Wichtig wird die Möglichkeit überhaupt ins Internet zu kommen. Nach einiger Recherche habe ich die - hoffentlich ideale - Lösung gefunden: einen mobilen UMTS-WLAN Hotspot von Novatel (MIFI 2352). Eine nicht ganz preisewerte aber sehr flexible Lösung da man hiermit bis zu 5 WLAN Geräte parallel betreiben kann. Ich werde also mit Netbook, iPod touch und evtl. iPad online gehen können - nun noch einen preiswerten Datentarif für Australien finden...
